The Planning Process

Fran and Alex’s elopement in Budapest was remarkably planned within a mere three weeks. They didn’t have much flexibility with their dates as it was just a spur of the moment decision to incorporate their elopement into their already organized trip to Europe. Alex provided a few guidelines, however when it came to preferences for their venue they were open and optimistic as neither he nor his finance had previously visited Budapest. Drawing from previous wedding experience, they were assured that I could provide them with a stunning venue. I felt inspired by their confidence and the opportunity to create an unforgettable experience for them, not only for their wedding but also for their first ever trip to Budapest. To ensure their 2 days here would be as memorable as possible, I selected a centrally located boutique hotel renowned for its exceptional hospitality, exquisite design, and breathtaking views from their rooftop bar. I quickly secured The Aria Hotel Budapest which served as the primary setting for their celebration.

The Design Process & Setup

After establishing a budget, they entrusted me with the creative freedom to select vendors and decor that aligned with their preferences and financial plan. Fran shared her preferences regarding flowers and the colors she wished to have incorporated into the design. I presented her with the initial proposal, which allowed her the opportunity to edit any elements that did not meet her approval. To achieve the desired aesthetic of comfort, lusciousness and a natural ambiance, I sourced various items from multiple vendors. The hotel provided the perfect chairs that complemented the decor, and we decided to incorporate them at the dining table.

We encountered an unexpected challenge upon delivery of their dining table: it became evident that lifting it up the spiral staircase to the rooftop would be impossible. Fortunately, the hotel offered the option to open the retractable roof from the floor below, and they enlisted their strongest staff to hoist the table up to the terrace. With that obstacle overcome, we were poised to finalize the overall look.

For the ceremony, we arranged the flowers on three stands, ensuring that nothing was overly full so as to obstruct the view of Saint Stephen’s Basilica. Additionally, we placed a few scattered lanterns on the floor to enhance the romantic atmosphere as the sun set.

The First Look & Ceremony

The day commenced with their first look taking place upon their speed boat, followed by a delightful champagne cruise. A cruise along the Danube River in Budapest represents the quintessential way to absorb the most captivating sights of both Buda and Pest. This experience is particularly suited for those with limited time, offering an unforgettable experience that leaves one wishing to relive again and again. They returned to the Aria for their ceremony on the panoramic terrace, which offers stunning 360-degree views of Budapest. As Fran ascended the steps to join Alex and their closest friends, an acoustic guitar and violinist provided a beautiful musical backdrop. The heartfelt ceremony, which was live-streamed for family and friends, concluded with the couple cutting their cake against the iconic backdrop of Saint Stephen’s Basilica.

Although rain briefly interrupted their festivities, a contingency plan was already in place. They transitioned to the indoor setup, where they enjoyed dinner. After the meal, they returned to the rooftop terrace just in time to witness a breathtaking sunset. The couple celebrated the remainder of the evening dancing and sipping exquisite cocktails while immersing themselves in the stunning cityscape.
